Overview
Responsibilities:
- The Head of Libraries is responsible for enriching and supporting teaching and learning through digital and print resources, connections to a schoolwide literacy programme, and development/execution of a library/media skills curriculum
- The position both manages the physical space of the libraries, online materials and identifies avenues for library integration with classroom teaching
- The Head of Libraries serves as an educational leader in promoting best practices, improving teaching and learning, creating a dynamic learning environment to serve the school community in the existing library spaces, and developing a strategic plan for consistent improvement and integration of the centres with strong curriculum and community links
- Drive the evolution of the school library into a future ready, multi-functional learning hub that seamlessly integrates technology with physical resources, fostering academic excellence and personal growth through collaboration, interactivity, and digital literacy development
- The Head of Libraries would line-manage a small team across both Primary and Secondary Libraries (Learning Resource Centres)
Requirements:
- Minimum a Bachelor’s Degree in Librarianship, Library Management or a related field that is recognized by the Ministry of Education
- Minimum 5 years experience in library management including leadership experience
- Strong understanding of the effective use of media resources and library skills for teaching and learning
- Excellent communication, teaching and interpersonal skills and enjoy working with students of all cultural backgrounds and from all year levels
- Able to be a team player who works well with colleagues to understand how to best support them and their curriculum
- Outstanding organisational skills and an eye for detail
- Open-minded with cultural sensitivity and understanding of the multicultural student, parent and teacher population at an international school
- Excellent computer literacy
- Experience in the education industry, particularly in an international school setting
- Familiarity with the IB, integrating library resources and collaborating with teachers to support the IB MYP, DP and CP programmes

About British School Jakarta
The site comprises two sections: Primary (including Kindergarten) and Secondary (Junior, for twelve to fourteen-year-olds; and Senior, for fifteen to eighteen-year-olds). The Primary and Secondary sections each house a Sports Hall and Libraries. Other facilities include a well-equipped Music Department; a state-of-the-art BSJ World Theatre; a Language Acquisition Centre; an olympic-size Swimming Pool with touch-pad time recording equipment; ample playing fields and Tennis Courts. All classrooms are air-conditioned and equipped with air purifiers, LCD projectors, interactive whiteboards, and computers.
